Teak and sandlewood Plantation

Carbon Planet Ltd. (CPL) is a plantation company incorporated under the Companies Act 2002, operating in Ngulakula and Uttate, Kibiti region, Tanzania, East Africa. With a focus on teak and sandalwood plantation and carbon sequestration, CPL is dedicated to sustainable forestry practices and environmental conservation. The Board of Directors of CPL includes Mr. Amin Badruddin Lakhani, Mr. Rupesh Shah, and Ms. Ashika Lakhani, who provide strategic direction and leadership to the company. CPL collaborates with esteemed institutions such as the Tanzanian Tree Seed Agency in Morogoro and Sukoine University of Agricultural Sciences, also in Morogoro. These partnerships enable CPL to leverage scientific expertise and knowledge in plantation management and carbon sequestration. CPL boasts a team of experienced scientists, including Dr. K. C. Chacko for teak plantation and Dr. HS Anantha Padmanabha for sandalwood plantation. Their scientific guidance and expertise contribute to the success of CPL's plantation operations. Teak planting is undertaken on a large scale by CPL, with 1,300 acres (520 hectares) under teak cultivation as of March 2021. Additionally, the company manages around 500,000 seedlings in their nursery every year, ensuring a sustainable supply of high-quality plants for plantation expansion. CPL's activities have a positive impact on the local communities. Their operations generate approximately 37,000 man-days of employment each year, providing livelihood opportunities for the local labor force. Furthermore, the specialized activities carried out by CPL contribute to the capacity building of workers, enhancing their ability to work scientifically in a similar work environment. As part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, CPL has undertaken various community development projects. They have funded the construction of new office buildings for the Village Administration and School Staff residences, providing improved infrastructure for administrative and residential purposes. Additionally, CPL has supported the local villagers by providing essential equipment such as tractors, ploughs, and trolleys, aiding their agricultural activities. They have also contributed sports equipment to the local school, promoting sports and recreation among the students. Through their dedication to sustainable plantation management, carbon sequestration, employment generation, and community development, Carbon Planet Ltd. strives to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the environment and the communities of Ngulakula and Uttate in the Kibiti region of Tanzania.
